Flower and ribbon project

02 Jan

I made this for my grandmother. It started out as an experiment and turned into something quite nice. For the first time I used plastic Cross stitch board, with the holes placed to mimic 14 count Aida Cross stitch fabric. Because the plastic board was so firm, my stitches were small, neat and very tight. An interesting look, for sure, although a lot of the background color of the plastic showed through. Here are the photos!

In this first one you can see the holes in the plastic- not very pretty.I ended up cross stitching everything that would show in the picture frame.

After finishing the motif I filled in the background with white satin thread cross stitching, and then framed that with white satin Ribbon on top of that ribbon frame, I put two strips of decorative ribbon to bring the purple of the piece out.
