Well HI everyone! I have several projects I am still working on but can’t showcase quite yet. 🙂 But I do have a little something I made which was not Cross stitch, but just as fun. Punch needle. Yes I am officially a puncher. lol
To create that Rug like Punched look, you need special needles called punch needles. How Apt right? 😀 Here are some photos of the needles I bought. These were not expensive although I think you can find some that are. I found these at Walmart. Basic and really good for learning with. Here is a link to find them on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Bulk-Buy-Punch-Needle-2-Pack/dp/B0033P71CE
Then I bought 3 kits from Dimensions– a well known embroidery kit company. ( They have some really impressive Cross stitching patterns!) This one is called Cupcakes #73405. Below is the link to a website selling this pattern/kit. It comes with floss, pattern printed on fabric, and directions. http://www.123stitch.com/item/Dimensions-Cupcakes-Punchneedle-Kit/K73405 Punch needle goes very fast, so before I knew it most of the project was finished before I stopped to get my camera out! But you can see how the needles make loops through the fabric. And unlike Cross stitch you work from the back of the fabric. I used a 1.2 mm sized needle, which was perfect for floss.I love how dainty it looks!
Lots of Punchers enjoy using thicker thread, like pearl cotton. And the more dense a weave in the fabric you are punching through, the better it will hold the thread loops. I really had fun with this first venture into punch needle. I hope to continue to learn and grow into this fun type of Embroidery!
